Paul (Saul) of Tarsus ('Apostle to the Gentiles')
and Pauline Christianity ('Paulianity')
- 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things
there is no law. -- Galatians 5:22-23 (New International Version)
- 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no
law. -- Galatians 5:22-23 (New King James Version)
- 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. -- Galatians 5:22-23 (King
James Version)
- 22 But these are the things which the Spirit wants you to show: love, joy, peace,
patience, being kind, being good, being true, being gentle, and keeping the
body under control. There is no law that says, 'These things are wrong.'
23 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have stopped doing the wrong things they want
to do. They have stopped them just as if they were killed on a cross. And they
have even stopped wanting to do them.. -- Galatians 5:22-23 (Worldwide English
(New Testament))
- 22 But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within
accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper,
forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, 23 Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence).
Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].
-- Galatians 5:22-23 (Amplified Bible)
- 22-23 But what happens when we live God's way? He brings gifts into our lives,
much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for
others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with
things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic
holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal
commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct
our energies wisely.
23-24 Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way.
Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way
and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off
for good—crucified. -- Galatians 5:22-24 (The Message)
